5 Cornish Locations I’ll Be Rushing Back To Post-Lockdown
This third national lockdown has felt like the most challenging one so far. One thing that is getting me through is knowing spring is around the corner and I cannot wait to revisit some of my favourite parts of this glorious county.
It is killing me not being able to hop in my car and go exploring, but we all have to follow the rules to keep everyone safe. I’m super lucky to live in wonderful Falifornia (Falmouth) and I can get my Cornish coast fix at my local beaches.
These are the five best Cornish locations that are tip top of my list for revisiting as soon as the restrictions are lifted…
Land’s End
After being restricted and spending most of winter indoors, the thought of the hour drive along the west coast to stand on the edge of the land and take a deep breath of ocean air sounds pretty idyllic right now!
St Mawes
A short ferry ride across the deepest natural harbour in Europe, St Mawes sits across from Falmouth and is part of the Roseland peninsula. The last time I visited was on my 25th birthday last year. I’ve been admiring from afar on my walks around Pendennis Point in Falmouth, where you can see St Mawes Castle across the estuary. Sister to Pendennis Castle, these artillery gun forts were both built by Henry VIII to protect the harbour from enemy warships in the sixteenth century.
Polly Joke Beach, Newquay
One of the places that has popped up on my Instagram feed a lot recently is Polly Joke Beach. I’m jealous of everyone who has been to visit the colony of seals that have taken up residence in the sandy coves around this coastline. The fields above Polly Joke also belong to the famous Pentire poppies that spring to life in the early summer.
Porthcurno
One of the all time best Cornish locations in my opinion, Porthcurno will never fail to take my breath away. The turquoise waters and silky soft white sands make it hard to believe this could be England and not somewhere more exotic. I’m looking forward to revisiting the walk from Penberth Cove over to Porthcurno Beach.
The Lizard
Last but not least, The Lizard is somewhere I will definitely be rushing back to as soon as possible. There’s a miniature schnauzer and two cats waiting for plenty of cuddles!
As well as being where my family now live, it’s a peaceful escape from everyday life. Picturesque scenery combined with an old-world charm makes you feel as if you’re stepping back in time. When I need a bit of solace and calm, The Lizard is my go-to. And it goes without saying, I always treat myself to an Ann’s pasty whilst I’m there.
