Heavenly Seafood at The Fish House, Fistral Beach
This family-owned restaurant is full of delights from the deep blue. The seafood risotto was *chef’s kiss* and the linguine, a treat for the tastebuds.
One of the top seafood restaurants in Newquay
If you’re on the lookout for seafood restaurants in Newquay this summer, take a detour down to Fistral Beach for this hidden gem.
Located mere metres from the famous surfing beach, The Fish House naturally attracts tourists in troves, but has an outstanding reputation with the locals too. (That’s always a big green flag in my eyes.) I’ve been eager to try for a while, and finally got around to visiting in the spring, on a hungry whim after a coastal walk.
Soulful food and relaxed atmosphere
I sometimes find with seafood restaurants in Cornwall, it’s either gorgeous food but a pretentious setting, or a laid-back vibe, but a lacking menu. Rarely do places get both spot on, but The Fish House has managed it.
As you step through the doors to a warm welcome from the owners, the place has a real intimate charm about it. The bistro’s decor takes inspiration from the cuisine, with mackerel artwork, beachy cushions, and white-washed wood features, like stepping into a breezy beach house.
Award-winning seafood
With a Michelin Plate under their belts, I knew we were in for a treat. The worst part about this visit was trying to decide between all the irresistible dishes on the menu. We started with the homemade focaccia dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
For the main event, we opted for the seafood risotto, packed with mussels, tiger prawns, crab and hake fillet, and the crab and tiger prawn linguine cooked in white wine, garlic, chilli and cherry tomatoes.
Accompanied with a refreshing pint of Cornish lager and a glass of sparkling wine, the whole dining experience was truly exceptional. No wonder this is one of the most highly recommended seafood restaurants in Newquay.
Other dishes that almost tempted us were an Indian fish curry, pan-fried sea bass fillets with a homemade salsa verde, and the classic battered fish and chips. I have no doubt every dish on the menu is worth trying, and I will certainly be back for more!
